Young People in Mangochi Applauds NYCOM

Youth representatives in Mangochi district expressed gratitude for being engaged for the revision of the National Youth Policy (2013) and NYCOM Strategic Plan (2015-2020) consultations earlier in the month of October. Responding to the consultations, George Khaula Director for Youth Initiative for Sustainable Development in Malawi (YISD) said He took part in the said he was delighted to be part of this important process. “This is a rare opportunity because this is a platform where we can raise issues that affect us as young people and we voice how we would want issues that affect us to be tackled” He said.
Bernadetta Maumba, Operations Officer for ‘Go Fund a Girl Child Organization’ reiterated Khaula’s sentiments and further said, it will be meaningless and a waste of time if these what is suggested in these meetings is not implemented. “As young people we want to see these policies translated into action, consultations is the first step, now we wait for implementation and this time we will keep track of what is happening and hold duty bearers responsible should we see that they are deviating from the plans” she emphasized.

District Youth Officer for Mangochi, Aubrey Banda said he was delighted with the level of participation by the youth. In his observation, the young people raised key issues in the area of health and malnutrition; participation and leadership; economic empowerment and education.
NYCOM together with the ministry of Youth and Sports organized the consultation meetings targeting youth led organizations; and also, youths in networks and clubs. The consultations are projected to take place in 14 selected districts across the country.
