Msungama hands over the civil works site for expansion of Neno Youth Center
On Saturday 10th October 2020 the Minster of youth and sports handed over the civil works site for expansion of Neno Youth Development Center in Neno District, with the aim of equipping the youth with entrepreneurship.
Speaking during the hand over ceremony, the Minister for Youth and Sports, Honorable Ulemu Msungama (MP) said the Jobs for Youth Project under his ministry is supporting the project with not less than 3.5 Million US dollars for the expansion of four (4) public institutions in four districts namely; Gara community technical college in Karonga, Mbandira Community Technical College in Nkhotakota, Naminjiwa Community Technical College in Phalombe and Neno Youth center.
He further said, among others, his ministry seeks to empower young men and women with different skill sets so as to create more jobs for them which will help address the issue of unemployment among youth in Malawi. As a result, the four training centers will offer training opportunities to the youth in the areas of small-scale mining, manufacturing (textile and designing), information communication technology and agriculture among other. Lastly Msungama committed to ensure that young people are given the necessary technical and vocational training and skills for them to effectively contribute towards sustainable development of the country.
The District Youth Officer for Neno, Hope Mwafulirwa promised to work hand in hand with the contractors together with the community in ensuring the project is not delayed. Mwafulirwa added that this project is a great opportunity young people in the district and further made calls for the community to help in safeguarding the materials from theft and misuse. by Temwa Chiumia NYCOM/TC
