The 2025 National Youth Summit is officially in motion, following an engaging planning meeting hosted by the National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) at Malville Hotelon the 17th of April in Lilongwe. Over 60 participants—youth leaders, partners, and changemakers—gathered to bring their ideas, experiences, and energy into shaping what promises to be a transformative event.

Now in its second edition, the summit builds on the success of last year’s groundbreaking gathering, which set a new standard for inclusive and action-oriented youth engagement in Malawi. The 2025 edition aims to push the bar even higher.

In his opening remarks, NYCOM’s Director of Programmes, Mr. Williot Joaquim Lumbe , reflected on key lessons from last year and highlighted NYCOM’s commitment to doing things differently. He emphasized the Council’s drive to make this year’s summit more impactful, more inclusive, and closely aligned with national development priorities. Mr. Lumbe also expressed enthusiasm about the strong turnout from stakeholders—an encouraging sign of growing shared ownership and support for youth development.

He further confirmed that His Excellency Dr Lazarus Chakwera , President of the Republic of Malawi, has accepted to officially open the summit—an endorsement that underscores the value placed on young people in shaping the country’s future.

Set to take place from 2nd to 4th July 2025, the summit will be held under the theme, “Harnessing Youth Innovation for Economic Empowerment and Sustainable Job Creation Towards Malawi 2063.” The summit will spotlight youth-led solutions to drive inclusive economic growth and sustainable livelihoods, in line with Malawi’s long-term vision and NYCOM’s Strategic Plan—particularly Pillar 1: Youth Economic Empowerment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovations.

NYCOM extends sincere appreciation to all stakeholders for their continued support and encourages young people across the country to look out for upcoming calls for participation, partnerships, exhibitions, and awards. The road to the 2025 National Youth Summit has begun—and it’s one that welcomes every young Malawian ready to lead and shape the future. 2025.
