The National Youth Council of Malawi is making significant progress in implementing the AGRA-Sustainably Growing Africa’s Food Systems. -funded Youth Entrepreneurship for the Future of Food and Agriculture (YEFFA) project, an initiative directly contributing to Pillar 1 of our Strategic Plan focused on Youth Economic Empowerment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovations.

This week’s activities in Dowa and Dedza districts saw NYCOM-trained youth leaders delivering practical skills training to their peers, aligning with the council’s strategic objective of fostering economic opportunities for young Malawians. The peer-led model, a cornerstone of YEFFA, ensures sustainability by equipping youth to train others in their communities.

In Dedza’s TA Kaphuka, NYCOM’s monitoring team documented two exemplary training sessions conducted by facilitators who completed the council’s Training of Trainers program. Wester Ndawala led a session on mindsetchange and life skills development, emphasizing resilience and self-efficacy—key barriers identified in Malawi’s youth entrepreneurship landscape. Meanwhile, Roshan Kazembe facilitated entrepreneurship training, using AGRA’s tailored curriculum on agribusiness value chains.

Simultaneously in Dowa district, six NYCOM-trained youth leaders replicated this model, conducting training for 40 peers across T/A Mponela A and B. With support from the DYO, similar trainings will be held across all 15 Traditional Authorities in Dowa and 4 Traditional Authorities in Dedza starting from Monday 14th April till 19th April 2025 during scheduled youth club meetings to ensure widespread dissemination of the knowledge.
