Last week, on 17th April 2025, the safeguarding training under the Youth Entrepreneurship for the Future of Food and Agriculture (YEFFA) project came to a successful close in Zomba District. Led by the National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) in partnership with AGRA, the training aimed to build young people’s capacity to recognize, prevent, and respond to abuse—while promoting a culture of protection and accountability in youth spaces.

The session brought together youth from Traditional Authority Mwambo and members of youth clubs including Tiwasamale, Tikambirane, Chiphoola, and Malukula, who actively participated in discussions and hands-on activities. Key themes included safeguarding rights, ensuring social well-being, and understanding reporting pathways for abuse or misconduct.

Participants gained essential knowledge on safeguarding, learning appropriate pathways for prevention, reporting, and response to ensure their own safety and that of their peers. By embedding safeguarding principles into YEFFA activities, NYCOM and AGRA continue to promote a secure and inclusive environment for youth participation in Malawi’s agricultural sector.

Participants walked away with practical tools to strengthen safety in their communities and youth programs. By embedding safeguarding principles into YEFFA initiatives, NYCOM and AGRA continue to support a safer, more inclusive environment for youth engagement in agriculture.
