A learning visit to GGL Farm in Lumbadzi.

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM), Rhoda Gadama Misomali, today conducted a learning visit to GGL Farm in Lumbadzi as part of ongoing efforts to explore and promote opportunities for youth participation and empowerment in Malawi’s agricultural sector.

The visit provided an opportunity to appreciate the innovative agricultural practices being implemented by GGL Farm, a leading horticultural enterprise that utilizes modern greenhouse technology and climate-smart farming methods to produce high-quality crops for local and international markets. Through the engagement, discussions explored the vast opportunities available for young people across the agricultural value chain, including commercial crop production, agritech solutions, value addition, agribusiness management, and agricultural marketing.

The visit further highlighted the critical role of technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship in transforming agriculture into a viable and attractive sector for youth employment, wealth creation, and sustainable economic development.

A key highlight of the visit was learning about GGL Farm’s existing training programmes implemented through the GGL Training Centre as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. The training programmes provide practical agricultural knowledge and hands-on skills to aspiring farmers, contributing to the development of a skilled and productive workforce. This initiative presents a significant opportunity for youth empowerment, as it exposes young people to modern farming technologies, best agricultural practices, and entrepreneurship skills necessary for success in the sector.

Building on this, NYCOM and GGL Farm will work to design partnerships that expand training opportunities to equip young people with practical skills, mentorship, and hands-on experience in modern agriculture. This approach aims to strengthen youth employability, promote agribusiness entrepreneurship, and create a pipeline of skilled young agripreneurs capable of contributing to Malawi’s agricultural transformation agenda.

The learning visit to GGL Farm underscores the Council’s dedication to identifying innovative approaches that empower youth, promote skills development, and increase youth participation in key productive sectors of the economy for inclusive and sustainable national development.
